"I chose oncology as a career path because the science is absolutely fascinating with medical and technological advancements constantly changing the way cancer is able to be treated," Dr. Shuler said. "It is a field in which patients let you in to an extremely intimate aspect of their life and allow you to help them navigate through this particularly vulnerable time. I cherish the opportunity to cultivate long-term, meaningful physician-patient relationships through their journey of cancer treatment and survivorship." (Source: Mid America Cancer Care)

Amanda Riley, RN, BSN, Nurse Navigator

Carroll County Memorial Hospital's goal is to provide comfort throughout your Cancer Care Journey. Amanda Riley, RN, BSN, serves CCMH as a Nurse Navigator. CCMH's Nurse Navigator begins working for most patients upon a suspicious finding, therefore significantly decreasing the time frame to diagnosis and treatment, making CCMH's program unique.

Nurse Navigators provide patient-centered care including timely guidance, support, resources and education regarding their current health status. She becomes the point of contact for patients that have multiple facilities and providers, patients with a new life-altering diagnosis, and patients that may have barriers to receiving or following healthcare requirements.

The goal for the Nurse Navigator is to improve quality and timeliness of care, improve patient satisfaction, and ease the burden for complex patients. As an advocate for the patient, family, and staff the navigator can make the complex healthcare journey manageable.
