Carroll County Area YMCA teams up with City Park & Rec and Carroll County Memorial Hospital to Offer Year Round Pool Amenity

May 11, 2017

CARROLTON, Mo. -- On Monday, May 1, the Carroll County Area YMCA announced its collaboration with the Carrollton City Park & Recreation Pool and the Carroll County Memorial Hospital/Lifestyle Fitness Center Pool as an amenity to the YMCA memberships.

"After 5 years in existence in the Carroll County Area we have discovered the need for our community to be able to have access to a pool not only for fun and enjoyment but for health, exercise, and the ability to learn how to swim," said Kathy Lock, YMCA Director. "We continue to field questions about when we will build a pool.  We are fortunate to live in a community that already has two wonderful pools available and two wonderful organizations that are willing to work together with us so we can offer that amenity to YMCA members on a year round basis."

YMCAs across the country are unique to their communities. Many people see YMCAs in larger communities or cities and expect a pool, basketball gyms, and many more amenities than what other YMCAs in rural communities have to offer. Many YMCAs in communities our size team up with other organizations in their communities so they are able to offer things such as swimming, basketball courts and such. YMCAs have found they are able to be strong and as successful by working together with the other existing organizations in their areas.

The Carroll County Area YMCA has already partnered with the Carrollton School District and use their facilities for programs such as basketball, football and vendor expo events.

"The only way our YMCA can survive in a rural area is to team up with organizations such as the schools, the hospital, churches and the city park and recreation department,” Lock said. “We have been so lucky and are so thankful for these organizations for allowing us to do so.”

“We are proud to partner with the YMCA and the Carrollton City Park and Recreation Department to make sure our community members are given every opportunity to become healthier,” said Jeff Tindle, CEO, CCMH.  The YMCA has been such a tremendous asset to our community and it seemed like a perfect opportunity to foster our Mission to being Dedicated to the Health and Well Being of All We Serve.”

How will your YMCA membership work at these pools?

Simply continue to bring your YMCA membership card and scan in at the front desk at each pools. There will be a live system with the YMCA membership database which ensures the membership is active just like at the YMCA facility. Rules and schedules will apply to the YMCA members and will be published soon. Access to the City Pool will start Memorial Day weekend and end closing weekend 2017. The access to the Lifestyle Fitness Pool will be open to YMCA members Sept. 5, 2017-May 25, 2018. A long relationship is anticipated with both organizations.

"As a retired YMCA board member, I knew this was something that could benefit both the YMCA and the City Park and Recreation Department,” said Russ Mayden, Park Superintendent of Carrollton City Park & Recreation. “Joining these two organizations will do nothing but benefit the people of Carrollton.”
