CCMH Completes First Liver Elastography Scan, Expanding Diagnostic Services for Patients

CARROLLTON, Mo. – Carroll County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) has successfully completed its first liver elastography scan, marking an important milestone in the expansion of diagnostic imaging services available to local patients.
The new service became possible following the hospital’s recent investment in advanced ultrasound technology. CCMH’s Radiology Department identified liver elastography, also known as FibroScan, as a valuable addition that would provide patients with access to specialized liver health assessments closer to home.
“Our goal in purchasing the new ultrasound machines was to expand the services we can offer our patients,” said Hilary Taylor, CCMH Director of Radiology. “Liver elastography was a natural fit because it provides important information about liver health in a noninvasive way. We were excited to complete our first scan at the end of June and begin offering this service to our community.”
Liver elastography is most commonly used to evaluate liver fibrosis, a condition in which scar tissue develops in the liver. Fibrosis can reduce blood flow through the liver, causing pressure to build over time. If left untreated, liver fibrosis may lead to serious complications, including cirrhosis, liver cancer, liver failure, or gastrointestinal bleeding.
In addition to assessing fibrosis, liver elastography can be used to monitor patients with conditions such as fatty liver disease, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C. The test provides healthcare providers with valuable information that can support diagnosis, monitor disease progression, and help guide treatment recommendations.
Unlike more invasive diagnostic procedures, liver elastography uses ultrasound technology to measure liver stiffness quickly and comfortably, helping patients and providers gain important insights into liver health without surgery or extensive recovery time.
By bringing this service to CCMH, patients can access advanced liver screening and monitoring close to home, reducing the need to travel to larger medical centers for testing.
