CCMH Celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 15, 2019
April 7-13 was National Volunteer Appreciation Week. As a token of appreciation for their core group of volunteers, Carroll County Memorial Hospital recognized their Auxiliary with a special event.
A Volunteer Appreciation Tea with pie and ice cream was held Thursday, April 11, in 4 Corners Café for the members of the CCMH Auxiliary. Jeff Tindle, CCMH CEO, and Kate Lyons, CCMH Community Outreach Coordinator, presented the program. They expressed their appreciation, on behalf of the hospital, for the time, passion and craftsmanship that the Auxiliary members contributed over the course of the last year.
“This year’s theme focused on volunteers being ‘an essential piece of our team,’” Lyons said. “We asked both volunteers and staff to write a nice note about either a specific volunteer, or the whole group. All of their notes were placed on a canvas and formed into a puzzle, which was presented to the group at their event.”
All volunteers received a pin from Missouri Hospital Association, which signifies Missouri’s Hospital Heroes. Service pins were awarded to volunteers who have served for five years or longer. Those awarded were Mikki Evans and Wanda Wilson. Malia Casner, Lois Forsythe, Lois Henks, Marlyn Martin, Evelyn Robertson, Jane Ross, Peggy Swearingin and Celesta Taylor were not present.
Volunteers who donated a minimum of 100 hours in the last year were recognized with the “100 Hours Award.” This included Norma Barry, Jim Paul, Sally Paul and Diane Rush. Marlyn Martin was not present to accept the award. As a group, they reported 2,000.5 combined hours since last April.
“Our volunteers provide assistance to our hospital and patients in many ways,” Lyons said. “They serve as greeters at two locations in the hospital, sew activity bags for children, eyeglass cases and pillows, and hold fundraising events to provide financial support to specific hospital departments, to name a few. The group has also been focusing on recruitment and has gained seven new members since last spring.”
The current CCMH Auxiliary members are: Norma Barry, Malia Casner, Mikki Evans, Eileen Ferguson, Lois Forsythe, Lois Henks, Vaona Knott, Marlyn Martin, Jim Paul, Sally Paul, Elizabeth Pierson, Evelyn Robertson, Terri Rocke, Jane Ross, Diane Rush, Nancy Schmidt, Nancy Smith, Nancy Staton, Peggy Swearingin, Celesta Taylor, Judy Travis and Wanda Wilson.
