CCMH Senior Life Solutions Recognizes Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

CARROLLTON, Mo. – September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, and Carroll County Memorial Hospital’s (CCMH) Senior Life Solutions program is committed to raising awareness about mental health, reducing stigma, and helping individuals access the support they need.
Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is a time for communities across the nation to come together to educate, support, and spread hope. Each year, organizations work to improve understanding of mental health challenges, promote access to care, and educate the public about the warning signs of suicide and how to help those in need.
“Suicide Prevention Awareness Month is a critical time to remind everyone that help is available, and that mental health is just as important as physical health,” said Mindie Stovall, RN, CCMH Senior Life Solutions Program Director. “By starting conversations and providing education, we can all play a part in breaking the stigma and supporting those who may be struggling.”
CCMH’s Senior Life Solutions is an intensive outpatient group counseling program designed to meet the unique emotional and mental health needs of older adults, typically age 65 and older, who are experiencing depression, anxiety, grief, or other challenges often associated with aging, life changes, or chronic medical conditions.
Many older adults face significant transitions that can impact their mental health, including the loss of a loved one, retirement, declining health, or increased isolation. The Senior Life Solutions program provides personalized support to help participants navigate these challenges and improve their overall quality of life.
The program may be beneficial for individuals who have recently:
- Experienced a traumatic event
- Lost a spouse, family member, or close friend
- Lost interest in activities they once enjoyed
- Experienced changes in appetite
- Had difficulty sleeping or changes in sleep patterns
- Noticed a loss of energy
- Experienced feelings of sadness or grief lasting more than two weeks
- Felt hopeless, helpless, or worthless
Following an individual assessment, participants attend structured group counseling sessions in a supportive and encouraging environment where they can connect with others facing similar challenges. The program’s multidisciplinary team includes a board-certified psychiatrist, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, registered nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals dedicated to supporting the emotional well-being of seniors in the community.
In addition to treatment and support, Senior Life Solutions emphasizes the importance of recognizing warning signs of depression and emotional distress before they escalate into a crisis. By providing early intervention, education, and compassionate care, the program strives to help older adults maintain independence and enjoy healthier, more fulfilling lives.
Anyone can make a referral to the program, including the individual seeking help, family members, physicians, healthcare providers, or other community professionals.
