Did You Know? Advanced Surgical Care Is Available Close to Home at Carroll County Memorial Hospital

September 18, 2026

CARROLLTON, Mo. – When many people think of surgery, they assume they’ll need to travel to a larger city for specialized care. But did you know that Carroll County Memorial Hospital (CCMH) offers a wide range of surgical services right here in Carrollton?

From routine outpatient procedures to advanced orthopedic and vascular surgeries, CCMH provides high-quality surgical care close to home, allowing patients to receive treatment without the inconvenience of traveling long distances.

The majority of surgeries performed at CCMH are outpatient procedures, meaning patients can return to the comfort of their own homes the same day. Common procedures include gastrointestinal (GI) services such as colonoscopies, orthopedic procedures like shoulder and knee arthroscopies, and general surgeries including gallbladder removals and hernia repairs. Additional services include urology procedures, pain management interventions, and recently expanded vascular services.

In addition to standard outpatient surgeries, CCMH performs advanced procedures such as total hip and knee replacements and angiograms. By offering these services locally, the hospital helps patients access specialized care while remaining close to family, friends, and support systems.

“Providing surgical care locally makes a tremendous difference for our patients,” said Mindy Kelly, CCMH Director of Surgical Services. “When people can receive high-quality care close to home, it reduces travel, eases stress, and allows them to recover in a familiar environment surrounded by loved ones.”

While many procedures can be performed at CCMH, patient safety remains the hospital’s top priority. Each case is carefully evaluated to determine whether it can be performed locally or requires transfer to a larger facility.

“Several factors influence whether a procedure is performed in-house,” Kelly said. “We consider the complexity of the surgery, the patient’s overall health, the level of post-operative care that may be needed, and the availability of specialized equipment or services. If a patient’s needs exceed what we can safely provide, we coordinate prompt transfer to a higher-level facility to ensure the best possible outcome.”

Kelly says one of CCMH’s greatest strengths is the hospital’s ability to offer far more services than many people realize, all within the local community.

“CCMH is truly one of our community’s hidden gems,” she said. “People are often surprised to learn about the variety of surgeries and specialty services we provide. We have exceptional surgeons, a highly skilled anesthesia team, outstanding nurses, and a commitment to delivering quality care right here at home.”

Surgical services are available Monday through Friday, with dedicated operating room schedules that allow the hospital to accommodate a variety of specialties throughout the week, including orthopedics, general surgery, vascular procedures, and more.

Like many rural healthcare organizations, hospitals often face challenges recruiting specialty providers. CCMH has been fortunate to maintain a strong partnership with numerous specialists through its outpatient specialty clinic.

“Our providers are our best recruiters,” Kelly said. “They recommend CCMH to their colleagues because they know the quality of care we deliver and the supportive environment we provide. Those relationships help us continue bringing additional services and specialists to our community.”

The time between receiving a referral and scheduling surgery varies based on the type of procedure, insurance authorization requirements, and provider availability. Some procedures can be scheduled within a matter of days, while others may take several weeks. CCMH works closely with patients to ensure procedures are scheduled as efficiently as possible while considering both medical necessity and patient preferences.

Following surgery, patients recover in CCMH’s Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), where a team of registered nurses provides continuous monitoring and support. Nurses carefully manage pain, monitor vital signs, and help patients transition safely from anesthesia.

Depending on each patient’s recovery and individual needs, they may be discharged home with detailed care instructions or admitted to CCMH’s acute care unit for additional observation and treatment.

At CCMH, patients don’t have to travel far to receive expert surgical care. With an expanding range of services, experienced providers, and a patient-centered approach, the hospital continues to make advanced healthcare accessible right here in Carroll County.
